In favourable position(ops vul, we are not) seating at 4'th seat you hold
Scoring: MP
You see Pass 2♦* X , and it is up to you for bid.

*=2♦ is weak two in one major ( conservative style)


My pd bid 4♥, approving that they had at least game. I think contrary from next reasons in preference order
1. His hand is balance
2. We had about 1+1/2 trick in defence
3. If they had slam or game our premt will not stop them
My choice is simply 2♥.

2H for me too. 4H leaves the opponents only winning options.

With hands that can take 7 tricks opposite this junk I would not open 2D.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Especially if X was a nebolous "card-showing" double, I like 3♥.
Usually vulnerability is not THAT much of a concern for me when raising preempts, as partner took it into account already when opening. But having opened in second seat, he will still have a rather pure weak two (esp. given the "conservative style").
Over 3♥, opponents may still misjudge whether to take the safe plus in 3♥X, the one in 3NT/4♠, or to explore for a slam. Of course, it can also be -800 against a slam they would never bid, but well...

normally I'd bid 2♥, and the only alternative imo is 3♥. 4♥ is crazy...

I care about the friends I have made on BBO. Also, I am extremely concerned about the environment/ ecology/ wildlife/ the little planet that we call Earth. How much more of the world's habitat and food supply for animals do we plan on destroying. How many more wetlands are we going to drain, fill, and build on? How many more sand dunes are we going to knock down in the interests of high-rise hotels or luxury homes?

I have a question, please.

I have not played multi or minimult, so I ask to learn.

Why is Pass not an option on this hand? Why would not Pass deny a top heart honor while bidding 2H [or 3H] (which I assume is pass or correct) show a top heart honor? P rates to be on lead based on the bidding so far.

Most play that passing 2Dx shows diamonds and partner will usually pass. This increases safety (helps you stay out of 6-0 fits and the like) and perhaps puts more pressure on the opps (they have fewer options & must act now).

Some sort of lead direction being built in instead seems like an ok idea. Note that bidding 2!S would say you like hearts (but only want to play 2!S opposite spades), so 2!H being lead directing for hearts is a bit funny. If something is going to be lead directing, I'd recommend pass: then you still play the hand in the more likely event that you're not lead directing, and also advancer is more likely to play the contract when you are (since must bid now [edit -- this doesn't make any sense]). As for whether it should be lead directing for hearts or spades, dunno.

Actually, a thought occurs to me: if you lead direct for a suit presumably you've got something like Qx. What if this is not pard's suit? Then you've located a card for the opponents (e.g. give pard xxx ... I suppose this isn't so terrible since usually they'll finesse you for stuff, but it's still something and what if they count out the hand and find pard is 3-6-2-2 and decide the Queen is more likely to be with the length). Something to keep in mind.

I play pass as 'transfer your Major' -> RDbl = ♥, 2♥ = ♠. So it's an option. But I don't want to do that, since it gives opponents another round of bidding possibilities, and it doesn't take away any bidding space. Compare (in case of ♥):

2♦ - Dbl - 2/3♥ - ...
pass - ...

2♦ - Dbl - Pass! - ...
RDbl - ... - 2♥ - ...
pass - ...

"..." means opps can bid something. So you see, opponents both get 2 more possibilities to bid, and since I'm weak, I don't want to give them too much opportunities to explore for the best contract, since it's their hand.

Some play rdbl as "partner, bid ur suit". Then 2♥ shows willingness to play at least 3♠ if that's partner's suit.

thanks for the responses.

like i said, i don't know the convention very well, and i suspect that my idea of lead direction was based on wk2s where the suit is already known. I sincerely appreciate the explanations.
