This is the BBO Server 2 Feedback Thread where we'll collect info related to the tests of our new backup server. To ensure nothing breaks, we need your help to test it with "real players" like yourselves before it goes live.

Tests will take place from Friday, July 5, until Saturday, July 13.

How to Access the Test Server

Use your usual BBO username and password to log in to the test server.

Click here to login to BBOServer2

What You'll See on the Test Server
  • The test server contains games similar to those on the "real BBO."
  • Prices might differ from those on the "real BBO."
  • Reply to this thread with your BBO username, and we'll credit your account with BB$ to try any game.
  • Some features, like the Prime section, are not included in this test.

Suggested Testing Hours

To ensure we have enough players online to start tournaments and matches, please try to log in and play during the following hours:
  • Daily Testing Hours: 2:00 PM UTC to 4:00 PM UTC and 8:00 PM UTC to 10:00 PM UTC
    This means:
    3pm to 5pm Paris time (9am to 11am New York, 11pm to 1am Sydney)
    9pm to 11pm Paris time (3pm to 5pm New York, 5am to 7am Sydney)
  • Weekend Testing Blitz: Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 AM UTC to 12:00 PM UTC and 6:00 PM UTC to 8:00 PM UTC
    This means:
    11am to 1pm Paris time (5am to 7am New York, 7pm to 9pm Sydney)
    7pm to 9pm Paris time (1pm to 3pm New York, 3am to 5am Sydney)
Click this link to see the hours in your own time zone. It's linked inside the Test Server for ease of reference.

We encourage you to join during these times to maximize the number of players and make it easier to play games together. While you're welcome to explore the server at any time, having more people online simultaneously will make the testing more effective and enjoyable.

Here's What to Test

  • Start a table and play a few hands. Play a few hands with people, see if everything seems okay. Try to claim, undo, redeal. Use robots at your table and see if they start playing.
  • Play a team match and check if everything looks fine.
  • Play a free tournament. We'll post some free test tournaments during the testing hours.
  • Play a paid tournament with people (ACBL, Express).
  • Play a pair tournament and register with a robot. Is the robot playing?
  • Play an instant tournament (free/paid).
  • Play a robot tournament from Robot World (Robot Duplicate, Robot Rebate, Robot Reward).
  • For TDs: Create a tournament and see if all works as expected.
  • For teachers: Start a teaching table and do what you normally do -- see if it works as expected.
  • Other activities you like to do on BBO that we didn't think about.

Daylongs and challenges
are less dependent on the BBOserver, but it would help if you try one or two. Just don't over-focus on them.

What We Need You to Do

For each suggested task you pick from the list above, follow these simple steps:

  • Perform the task briefly: For example, if you're checking whether starting a table with friends works, just play 2-3 hands. We want to see if everything works as expected: if the table starts successfully, if the cards load, if inviting friends works, and if you can use options like undo, claim, redeal, and alert during play. Or, another example: When you register with a robot in a pair game, we simply want to confirm that the robot is seated as your partner and playing. After this, you can quit the game if you wish and move on to another scenario.
  • Let us know how it went by posting in this thread, and you can move on to another task if you wish.

How to Give Feedback

When posting your feedback, please include the following information:

  • Username: The BBO username you used during the test.
  • What You Tried: Specify what you tested (e.g., table with people, table with robots, undo, redeal, claim, etc.).
  • Game Results Link: If available, provide a link to the game results (for example for teams, tournaments, challenges).

Even if nothing went wrong
, it's important to let us know. For example, simply stating "I tried X, nothing seemed out of the ordinary" is very helpful to us.

If There Were Issues

  • Take a Screenshot: Capture the issue on your screen. We suggest using Imgur which is a free resource and doesn't ask you to create an account. Capture the screenshot and simply paste it at imgur.com. Get the link to your image, and share it in your feedback post.
  • Describe the Problem: Provide a detailed description of the problem.
  • Mention Involved Usernames: Include the usernames involved, so we can investigate further on our side.

Important Notes

  • The BB$ balance on the test server is not your real balance. Spending money on the test server won't charge your real account.
  • Points or prizes won on the test server are not real and won't be reported to the ACBL or counted in your award rankings (sorry!).
  • Scores in games you play won't be reported in your stats and hand records. Feel free to abandon games and hop around without affecting your real account.

Compensation for Your Effort

As a token of our appreciation, we will credit your real BBO account with BB$ for your participation in the test. Please post your BBO username and details of your testing activities in this thread to receive your compensation.

Lorand (lorserker) and myself (diana_eva) will be monitoring this thread closely and helping organize the tests.

Thank you for helping!

I'll be online as diana_eva. If you see yellow hosts online, feel free to talk to them. We'll take turns being around to help with the tests as much as possible. Aurora, Curls77 (Sanya), and Don (DonFree) will also participate and be available if you have any questions or need someone at your table, team, or tournament.

Please mention your username below if you'd like to participate, so we can add some BB$ to your account, allowing you to try any game.

Please let me know if any of you needs more money (either on the thread or by chat/mail to "Lorserker")

Thank you for your help with testing!

Challenging a robot, playing a few hands with robots in the main bridge club, and bidding tables have all worked fine for me to date.

Starting an Instant 100 tournament gives an error ('An error was detected while processing tournaments').

Choosing the standard instant or ACBL instant tournaments work, though the popup warning me about the price has a different price to what is shown on the label.

Starting and playing a star challenge worked - bots accepts valid claims and rejected invalid claims over the set ✅
Broadcast messages can be received, and sending DMs to non-friended people works ✅
Registered for event 17758, which failed to start due to insufficient entries (I was only entry) ✅
- Despite this, the event momentarily appeared in the "running" tab despite showing 0 tables (and with the same yellow highlight to indicate I was registered for it). The event disappeared from this list upon refresh, so I wonder if it's just a slow worker to remove the tournament listing / this might be the same as on production and I've never noticed. ❓
Sent lobby chat messages. ✅
Edited account profile data (e.g. name / rank / location) ✅
Edited account settings (e.g. split view / pictures of cards / card sounds) ✅
Registered for another event (didn't register the id :oop: 17762 if I had to guess) which was going to not start. Sat in a casual table with 3 robots and waited for the event start. I got a message indicating the failure to launch event ✅
All of the links under the BB$ button point to https://v3-staging.b....com/bboserve2/ instead of e.g. Account Activity

As an aside, is it intentional / known that attempting to log in to the url staging without the config style stuff
config_file=https:%2F%2Fbibmobiledev.bridgebase.com%2Fconf_bbo1%2Fv3conf3.php
logs the user into the production server?

I completed a full standard Instant Tournament and had no issues (other than the show tables link on the resulting scoreboard not working, though I presume that's because MyHands isn't included on the staging server).

Private messaging also worked fine (at least, I can message myself :))

Miscellaneous other glitches:

I can't save or load a convention card under the Account tab. Looks to be trying to load from a non-secure http://dev.bridgebase.com URL.

My email address is missing in my profile. This may well be deliberate, but just noting it in case it isn't.

The Masterpoints and Races -> BBO Lifetime leaders button doesn't load (request results in a 500 error), but oddly every other leaderboard does work.

Probably not too important, but some console errors for reference (that don't happen on the live server):

Spoiler

Attempting to upload a new user image profile gives a 500 server error. This is likely due to the difference in URL between staging and live
https://webutil.brid...v2/user_img.php

vs

https://bibmobiledev...v2/user_img.php

I can open the Hand viewer, create hands, play through them and export them (e.g. this link https://tinyurl.com/22eu68j9), but any attempts to load save deals from my deal archive retrieve the board but don't allow me to step through the play at all.

The account delete request on staging seemed to go through okay (despite also going to a similar URL https://bibmobiledev...nt_deletion.php that failed for image uploading). Will see if account gets deleted (as after confirming it just says 'deletion will happen soon').

Changing languages in the settings tab appears to work, and I experienced a similar level of weirdness on live as opposed to staging for toggling between multiple languages without logging in/out and/or refreshing between each change (e.g. the refresh dialog prompt stuck as the first language you swapped to, the main UI stayed as English (my initial language), but other prompts were changing to the active language -> it was possible to have three different languages on the screen from the UI

Thanks Stephen. Good catch on the IT 100. We think that happens because there are not enough deals on the test environment to build the game, but we'll make sure to double-check once we move to production.

The prices were not updated and indeed, for the instants, they come from two different places: one to print on the graphical interface, and one from the back systems to actually charge the players.

It's all monopoly money so we didnt bother to bring it all up to date.

We noticed you have some BB$ in your balance,. Do you want us to add more for the tests ? You won't be charged for real if you use your existing BB$.

Thank you, this is very thorough and clear for us. Appreciate the detailed descriptions.

About the games, they won't start unless they have at least 2, sometimes 3 tables. This is why we suggested some testing hours where more people come online, to have enough participants for a tournament.

I'd suggest focusing on the 10 scenarios from the OP, which are actions controlled by the BBO Server. The rest of the links, panels, web utilities are not within the scope of the test. We think its a good idea to click around and report if you find anything strange, but the 10 points in the OP are mostly things that come from the server and we want to make sure didnt break.

The config file is what points to the test server. So yes, it's expected that if you remove it you're no longer on Server 2.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to help.

Tried a few ACBL tournaments, but there weren't any other players available to I just got an error saying too few players to start tournament.

Tried an ACBL instant tournament - didn't notice anything unusual.

I'm going to upvote the posts i've read, so you know we saw them.

We'll reply where we need more info.

Thanks to the newcomers. We'll have to try to find some hours to get together more of us ti have enuff ti start a tourney. There are some suggested testing hours in the OP, not sure if they work for everyone.

New participants, please mention if you need us to add some BB$ to your account for testing.
