Would you open 2NT on this hand how about if....

interesting hand from an ACBL matchpoint game....one of the least bid against bids is 2NT....playing 15-17 1NT and 20-21 2NT my opp opened 2NT on this one.



We beat it 3 tricks for +150 and no matchpoints. No big deal until I looked at the profile and saw that the two partners were married and had the same email address. At least I assumed that there married :P

Trying hard to understand what point you are trying to make...

It almost sounds like you're accusing the pair of being very stupid cheats.

some would with 19hcp but I dont think with 18 :P

IMO the reason NOT to open 2NT is you don't have the points to do so :P

NT openers ( no matter what point count you apply to them) normally have a 2 [or sometimes3] point spread , and that should make it easier for your partner to attemp to place the comtract at the right strain AND level

The point about the names is not relevant to the discussion :P

reading the article about the italians in the EBU made me think about this hand, so in a way it is relevant....go back some time and read the book about the bridge scandal in 1965. :D Just knowledge about one suit is enough to take unusual action

if 2NT = 20-21 and I have 18, I really don't see why I would open 2NT !?!?

Maybe if I want to break my partnership ! :D

So why was beating it 3 tricks no matchpoints? I guess one should double 2NT pass pass on general principles, especially when they are silly enough to open 2NT on a way too light hand!

You seem to have beaten it 2 tricks for 32% of the matchpoints. Double dummy defence would take it down 4. I think this hand just shows you that declarer felt the need to play the hand...If they were indeed married, I suspect that declarer was the husband!
