They're in a game-forcing auction, and are starting relays to work out slam (or which game, I guess).
I assume I'd know (or ask the basics) what their relays are going to show, and how high I have to bid to break the relays.
I assume I'd know (or can find out) what other GF or GF-possible calls South had available besides starting "relay time at the zoo".
I assume I'd know (or have asked for time to do some basic working out) our defence to the transfer openings, in particular what double and 1♥ meant. Because I know that partner doesn't have those hands.
Without all that information, it is impossible to determine what I would do.
But I'm guessing that 2♦ is relatively safe, relatively useful, relatively raiseable, and if it drops them out of relays, so much the better. If they double and get me for 500 into no slam - well, next time they might not guess right.
