Combination 1
A542
QJ63
This is your trump suit.
How do you play the suit for one loser in the following cases ?
a. LHO has preempted in a side suit
b. RHO has preempted in a side suit
In either case, no informative lead, and you have no other info.
(yes I know there MIGHT be other info from inferences etc etc , but let's assume you have to decide based SOLELY on vacant places and logic of preempt)
Combination 2
Would the analysis change holding the 9 ?

My first guess is:
1a. cash ace then lead towards QJ.
1b. the same as in a, but with less chance of success.
2a. again, cash the ace then lead towards QJ.
2b. start by leading the Q.

Agree except for 2b where if you want to virtually guarantee 3 tricks, it's better to lead low toward the Q, then low to the J if the Q held, on the off chance that RHO preempted with a side 4 bagger KTxx in your trump suit. Leading the Q is only necessary if you are going for 4 tricks or max expectation in this case. Low to the Q is the safety play.

You could verify the answers you get here with a tool proposed to me in another tread:

(The available space and the result will depend on the number of cards you have in preempt suit)

I agree with the first two poster.. Ace and low in case one,
Ace in 2A, and then either Queen out, or low from dummy towards teh queen, depending upon how many of these things I need. If I need four, I am gong to play RHO for Tx doubleton. If I only need three tricks here, low towards the queen, picking up 4-1 to KTxx with Lefty... by cashing jack after queen loses to king and taking marked finessee if necessary.
