I have been using Bridgbase Online for months but yesterday, having logged in successfully, the online home page was frozen. I could not access anything and could not leave the site until I switched off the iPad. Advice please

According to an email I received from BBO, you now need to be at iOS 11 to access BBO using an iPad.
They no longer support iOS 10 or earlier - iPad 4th generation uses iOS 10
You can check your iOS level in Settings on your iPad
