An old message in a box appears over my chat box

How do I remove an old message which appears in a box over my chat area/

I believe the problem is that Google Chrome is trying to autofill your Chat message, because it believes that it should.

I solved on a friend's computer by disabling autofill:
  • Go to Settings (the three vertical dots at the top right of Chrome)
  • Click on Autofill (left hand column)
  • Click on 'Passwords' and disable Auto Sign-in
  • Go back and click on 'Payment methods' and disable 'Save and fill payment methods'

Unfortunately Chrome does not permit you to save these settings per URL, they are either on or off for everywhere.

This seems to be a new 'feature', so I suspect a new release of Chrome or BBO has caused the Chat box to be reclassified as a form element.
