Scoring: IMP

From the Women's Team trials. If you saw or heard of this hand, please don't give it away. For the rest three questions: How do you bid the N/S hands; How do you play in the contract you reached; If you were told that in one room the contract was 3N by S and in the other room 5S by S, what is your estimate of the IMP gain or loss and for whom?
Later tonight I'll supply the results and my interpretation. Thanks.

I care about the friends I have made on BBO. Also, I am extremely concerned about the environment/ ecology/ wildlife/ the little planet that we call Earth. How much more of the world's habitat and food supply for animals do we plan on destroying. How many more wetlands are we going to drain, fill, and build on? How many more sand dunes are we going to knock down in the interests of high-rise hotels or luxury homes?

In the open room, the play was....ususual. LHO led the club 3 from A53, catching her partner with KJ62. RHO won the King, returned 4th best, and declarer "misguessed" and played the Queen. Opps cashed the first 4 clubs. Declarer pitched a heart from dummy and diamond from hand on the 4th club. RHO exited with the heart Jack. Declarer won in dummy, cashed the K of Spades, and led a Spade to her Ace. She then led a diamond to the King, so without cashing another heart, she led a diamond to the 9, J, 8. At this point, realizing she realized she had locked herself in hand and conceded down 2. (Turns out "endplay" was needed. Cash the Ace of diamonds and exit with a low Spade for down 1.) Result: 3N-DOWN 2

Meanwhile, in the open room, Breed led the A of clubs, a club to the K, and a club back. Declarer got the bad news in trumps, pitched two diamonds on the hearts, cashed the A and K of diamonds, then endplayed Breed in trumps for the 5S-DOWN 1!!!!! A pickup of 3 IMPS for playing 5S.

Edited because offensive portion of above post was deleted, and also because this forum is not about gender relations.

My bidding would just be:

1-2
2-2NT
3-3
3NT

And no possible 3 lead <_<.

So how did they make 5?

My auction would be identical to Fluffy's. Just wondering: restricted choice applies here right? Assuming that the defenders can win the first trick with the ace from AKx(x), the play of the 9 is twice as good as the play of the Q.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

The only time the Q is right is precisely when RHO has AK; another consideration though is if you are attempting to convey with the play of the Q that you hold QJx. However, if you are trying to demonstrate strength the J is better.

All told, I would think you'd have to have a high degree of intuition about the location of the AK to play the Q instead of the running it to the 10. No doubt RHO was capable of this play, but even when capable one must hold the right cards to do so.

The other consideration is that LHO is "marked" for a 3-card lead when RHO returns the 2 (unless false carding). Now the question is what 3 card holding induced this lead: Assuming at least one honor, Axx, Kxx, Jxx, either of the first two would seem to be a more attractive lead.

So how did they make 5♠?

They were down 1 in five spades, Fluffy. Just humorous, I thought, that 5 spades down 1 was a 3 imp pickup.

1S - 1NT(starts all G/F's with us)
2D - 2H* (art GF relay)
2NT* (5-1-4-3 or 5-2-4-2) - 3S
4S

I didn't read this so called offensive post because I have been playing Bridge all weekend, but seriously the censorship in this newsgroup is getting totally absolutely ridiculous!

Ron, it is my impression that the post was self-censored...after the comments by others. I maybe incorrect, but uday was not here, and the timing of the change doesn't match when rain is logged in... and I didn't edit it either. (as a matter of fact, I didn't read the comment either, so I can not address rather it WOULD or SHOULD have been editied).

This statement is totally accurate.

It did not occur to me at the time of the post to consider that there are extremely bright women who have and are still succeeding in a male-dominated world and who might not remember (or hated) 1950's-style humor and be offended by a depiction of the bidding of this hand in that light; As soon as I became aware of the problem, I self-edited because the sole intention was to amuse and never to offend.

Because these are open forums, anyone has the right to be offended; however, no one has the right to offend. IMHO.
