Dear John (skrshawk)

Cd we pls have more Picture/Cartoon options as "illustrations" for us. My particular favourite cartoon-type character wd b "gromit" btw.

Or cd we have a facility to upload a small pic (JPG/GIF) of our ugly mugs from our own PCs. This can be done into Yahoo!!! Not all of us have likenesses, flattering or otherwise, accessible via an open/public web page.

I have the honour to be your 'umble, 'steemed servant

Dear John né skrshawk

I have found a temporary solution to the personal pic problem ... am masquerading as the rather delicious-looking Eva Habermann, whomever she might be. Tho she's singularly lacking in beardedness ... can this be rectified?

Egregiously Yours

Allan

Those interested are welcome to upload pictures to the community 'bridgeFILES' in this album: http://groups.msn.co...ES/members.msnw

For some who may wonder I have noticed a few times some tried to specify address of their image uploaded to Yahoo. Approx. a year ago Yahoo stopped serving WEB-sites except their own ones.

-----NB------NB-----NB-----NB-------NB-----NB-----

Terms of service by MSN(Microsoft) is you need to be a member of the community. If you are not a member please follow the instructions from this WEB-site: http://groups.msn.co...FILES/help.msnw

After uploading your picture you rightclick your picture in the album and copy the address. The addres for my below picture is:
http://sc.groups.msn...eFILES/3/7e.jpg

In option 4, 2nd row you choose 'insert image' and then it will need to look in this way:

[i.mg]http://sc.groups.msn...eFILES/3/7e.jpg[/img]

No sorry Allan - I have told you privately and now publicly too - your picture is not coming up. Yahoo have changed their policy - you will not be able to persuade them to do otherwise.

GOOD GRIEF!!! GREAT SCOT!!!!!

But I can see my picture when I'm on the Forum!

BB F doesn't archive user graphics onsite then, but refers to the original "source site" each time one logs in ... very odd way to do things.

Oh well I'll just have to resume my cunning disguise as the Luscious Auntie Eva.

Gadzooks this is a fiendish conundrum.

I'd rather be Sylvester the Puddy-Cadt than one of these media icons any day.

Allan: The issue is one of directory permissions.
You have permission to access the directory where you placed your picture.
Ergo, you can see it.

The rest of the world does NOT have permission to access the directory in question.
Hence, we CAN"T see it.

Yup, Have realised, Oh Mighty Hrothgar.

I shall now be known as BLANK ... or hopefully as gromit the philosophical pooch if John/skrshawk can add to the unedifying collection of media celebrities at present available as avatar images.

It's a sign of the times I suppose :*(

I have no intensions argueing with you Allan - of course not - it simply doesn't matter to me.

I once had the same problem - it has costed me a lot of wasted hours to find out how the rules are for the companies offering free service of WEB-sites etc. For your information - Yahoo changed their policy as a part of a strategy to revive Yahoo. By that time commercial revenues was reduced dramatically.

I have problems accessing my AOL-id so here some info about Yahoo and MSN(Microsoft)

Yahoo
- No exe-files accepted(fx. selfextracting files)
- bat-files runs and produces nothing and cannot download where they are needed
- Complicated rules for name of a file(upload often fails)
- All costumer Web-sites must carry commercials
+ Free access to everybody to all web-sites
- Uploaded pictures cannot be displayed/re-used elsewhere
+ Address of the upload-server is a part of file-address

MSN - Microsoft
+ All files accepted
+ No commercials on costumer web-site(commercials are in the MSN area)
+ Free access to everybody to web-sites created in MSN-layout
- Membership(net-passport) required to access uploaded web-sites
+ Uploaded pictures can be displayed/re-used everywhere
- Address of the upload-server is aut. decided depending on language settings

I think some who don't know the rules really don't understand why they can access some of my WEB-sites and then suddenly they receive a message of no rights to access or the files cannot be found.

Above you therefore see the compromise I have made for my web-sites and why I use Microsoft

Indeed, Claus, you put forward a very convincing case for using the more flexible facilities of MSN etc.

Well done that Dane and all power to your elbows.

Yours Ever, gromit

There will now follow a Blessed Intermission and Respite
