MPs, you are S, non-vul vs vul.



You lead CK which asks for reverse count, partner plays the 4 and declarer the 3. What do you play next? If you switch to D10, it goes 3, 2 (encouraging), A and declarer plays back the C6.

I rise with the ace and play another diamond. Partner has two or four clubs, but could have discouraged diamonds if wanting a third-round of clubs, so I think it more likely that partner has a four clubs and a club will concede a ruff/discard. Leading my singleton trump is unattractive when partner has four trumps and opening up the heart suit looks unattractive if declarer should have the king.

Having started diamonds and received an apparently encouraging card, I see no reason not to carry on the suit.
