The voting is closed. We now open the hands for discussion by our members. I will say that five out of six hands raised some interesting concepts and nice discussion (and disagreement) by the panel of experts. This should be a fun set of hands to discuss.
Scoring: IMP

BPO-002A

3

Nasty hand for standard systems. 3 is right on shape, but is non-forcing. 4 hopelessly jams our auction. The jump rebid in a fake suit is the best choice...

I wavered between 3 and 3nt.

I think I like 3nt better, but can't now remember whether I did the same when submitting answers.

4H

Hopelessly jamming auction.
1) Did not like 3nt choice, afraid of communication problems but......may be last making contract.
2)3C, Hate to jumpshift into 3 card suit but many top experts do.
3) hmm let us see...4h often shows:
a*) around 18-20 hcp..check.
b*) strong h suit...check.
c*) denies biddable second suit very often...check
d*) often denies spade support....check

3NT for me, even though this doesn't necessarily show a hand as good as this one.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

  • Interests:My personal interests are my family and my friends. I am extremely concerned about the lives and futures of the kids (and their families) that I work with. I care about the friends I have made on BBO. Also, I am extremely concerned about the environment/ ecology/ wildlife/ the little planet that we call Earth. How much more of the world's habitat and food supply for animals do we plan on destroying. How many more wetlands are we going to drain, fill, and build on? How many more sand dunes are we going to knock down in the interests of high-rise hotels or luxury homes?

Another vote for 3 clubs:
I know little about partner's hand, and I don't know where we are headed yet. Three clubs at least gives partner more room to clarify his/her holding. Simply rebidding 3NT just seems to to me to be going too fast. If it's right, we'll get there. I want to hear partner's rebid.

I concur with the feeling that these were a very difficult set of hands. I hope I score over 200 in total. Good Grief.

3. Many other possible strains other than 3N.

I'd rather have one more heart and not the K for a 3N call.

4 never occurred to me.

3NT, should show this hand type.
Need not be the end of the auction unless you play the Hog System.
