I wonder if there are more countries where these kind of tournaments are played.

  • Netherlands (CafeBridgedrive + kroegentocht)
  • Belgium (Bridge Rally)
  • Germany (Kneipenturnier)
  • Great Britain (Café Bridge)

Where are these events and what is the name for this kind of tournament?

EDIT: new names added from posts below

Now that you raised our curiosity, perhaps you could explain what kind of tournament is involved :)

It's in the thread subtitle: "Tournament, players move from cafe/bar/restaurant to the next to play"

So it sounds like a "pub crawl" combined with playing bridge at each site. I've never heard of it being done in the US.

In the Netherlands we call it "kroegentocht"
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket

This is a "normal" pairs tournament where the tables are located in different restaurants/bars/cafes/ spread over a city. You start playing at one location with maybe 4 tables. Then you make a walk to the next location and play there. Walking around, always meeting different players at different places. Searching your way through a city. All have that little map in their hands to find the next place they have to go to. At one place you make your lunch break before you move to the next. Distances are normally no longer than 10 minutes walk. It is really fun as long as it is not raining and a lot of players here love it.

Where are these events and what is the name for this kind of tournament.

They have become popular in England, where they are called Cafe Bridge. One of the most experienced technical organisers of them is Victor Lesk, whose BriAn scoring program is ideally suited to them since it scores using smartphones/tablets to score over the internet.

Thanks, sounds like fun although somehow I don't think it would catch on in Italy (maybe in Milan which is more cosmopolitan).
