I was playing with my wife and two robots the other day, and the 5th to last trick went 6 6 6 6.

I have never seen four of a kind (I took a screenshot!) where players weren't specifically looking to do that. Anyone else seen this? Any idea how frequent it is?

My wife and I play against 2 robots every day. We find it fun to try to intentionally achieve such things as declarer (and to some extent as defenders). It is not that unusual to reach an ending where...

1) Dummy's last 4 cards are all the same rank OR
2) Declarer's last 4 cards are all the same rank OR
3) Both declarer's and dummy's last 2 cards are all the same rank

We see this happen maybe once a week (it doesn't count if you have to intentionally blow a trick to reach an ending like this - we don't do that).

I have seen both 1) and 2) happen on the same hand once. Sorry did not think to take a screenshot!

Obviously you have a lot less control in terms of trying to make 4 cards of the same rank appear in a single trick (what you saw), but when you intentionally try to achieve such tricks, they do happen from time to time. Naturally such tricks are more likely to occur toward the end of the play, but trick 13 always feels special for some reason :)

(I should be noted that I am not entirely sane)

Fred's post reminds me of my most unusual ending, where after a load of ruffing and overruffing in a moysian 3 I won the last 2 tricks with my 54 of trumps, one opp following with the 3 and 2.
