MPs, green vs red for once but still preempted!

RHO deals and opens 3D while you face:

ATxx
xx
Ax
AKQTx

Your move.

Double. It leaves the most flexibility to find the right contract.

If partner finds a 3 bid, I'll bid 3 NT.

If partner bids 3 , I'll continue with a 4 cue. Then if partner cooperates with a 4 control bid, we'll continue exploring for slam.

double unless you're playing with a f*cking idiot robot (yes I played the hand too)
"definitely that's what I like to play when I'm playing standard - I want to be able to bid diamonds because bidding good suits is important in bridge" - Meckstroth's opinion on weak 2 diamond

In the forum daylong, *everyone* plays the same hands. So might want to wait until it's over ;)

3nt

there are some remedies to p bidding 3h but what about 4h if we choose x instead? 3n has 2 extra benefits. 3nx we can run to 4c and if partner bids 4h or 4s at least we are secure in the knowledge they have length (not the case if we x).

Damn. I had noted 2 hands that I hadn’t played with my partner to ask her opinion and this one was one of them. I posted it here cuz we disagreed...but I forgot it was on the Sunday tournament.

She was X while I was 3NT. I actually don’t wanna play H’s on X and partner is unlikely to bid NT when I have DA and opps are red. Clubs offer a potential source of tricks in NT. And too bad for S’s (that could break badly anyway if we have a 44 fit only).

So I’ll post the 2nd hand too.
