Since Liversidge is English, I thought it worth mentioning that Acol has a very popular convention specifically designed for this hand type called Baron. There are a couple of different versions around but the one that is most popular uses Baron both to find 4-4 fits on semi-balanced hands with slam interest as well as for the invite function that Mike has explained.
1NT

2♠ = range ask (invite to 3NT or slam interest (bid card suits up-the-line))
... - 2N = min
... - ... - 3♣ = slam interest, 4+ clubs
... - ... - 3♦ = slam interest, 4+ diamonds, <4 clubs
... - ... - 3♥ = slam interest, 4+ hearts, <4 diamonds, <4 clubs
... - ... - 3♠ = slam interest, 4+ spades, <4 hearts, <4 diamonds, <4 clubs
... - 3♣ = max, 4+ clubs
... - 3♦ = max, 4+ diamonds, <4 clubs
... - 3♥ = max, 4+ hearts, <4 diamonds, <4 clubs
... - 3♠ = max, 4+ spades, <4 hearts, <4 diamonds, <4 clubs
----
The convention has generally decreased in popularity as minor-suit transfers have increased in their usage but it handles these sort of in-between hands quite well and in a simple way so it might be worth considering.

Very popular? I have lived here for 20 years, and have never seen it.
We play 2NT-3NT as Baron, but that is not popular either.
