Numerous times you can open 2C so your usually the captain. At it's next turn Gib jumps to slam.

Indeed Steve. The crapshoot aspect of this is really bothersome.

The problem here is that 4H is described as showing 11 HCP. There aren't that many hands where 7H isn't a really good contract (and yes, I know they do exist) if south really does have those points and short spades.

Really does not matter. The idea is to change strategy instead of these stupid jumps. Here 4S is easily available so partner can rein it in.
If I stay with original definitions of "points" I have more than necessary.
