Sorry vrock, but on this particular occasion you are the one who is crazy not GIB. Bidding 2C is completely absurd, 1nt is normal if you are going to open this hand.
The problem is that 1d followed by 2c is very wide ranging in strength, you can have up to 18. Also you are supposed to have 5 diamonds on this auction normally (the people who advocate 1d followed by 2c on some difficult 3145 type hands are in the minority these days in my estimation).
It's unclear to pass 2c because:
- might miss game if you are strong
- diamonds might play better (you might be 6-4, plus in general 5-2 fits tend to play a bit better than 4-3 fits)
