The answer is yes.

If you are doing MP vs Total Points/IMP, GIB does evaluate hand differently in the bidding process.
At MP, GIB chooses the contract that works most often.
At TP/IMP, it takes the one with the best avg TP score.

GIB does not consider scoring method in the play/defense yet, afaik, though that's probably coming...

I played a "strange" hand with 3 GIBs today. GIB in N passed>>> GIB E bid 3C >>>HUMAN{me) bid 3H >>>>>GIB in N passed.

After the hand I saw at the Bridge Movie that in exactly same auction GIB N not passed but bid 4H. It happened on 2 tables , 3H was passed on 6. All were an IMP games with human in S.

Just out of curiosity why did it happen?

Was this a tourney or in the main bridge club?

In the MBC, some users rent advanced robots ($1/day), some rent basic robots ($1/week), and some are using the Windows client that uses the downloaded GIB application, which hasn't been updated in a while. The different levels of robots will bid differently.

Also, if simulations are used in the bidding, the random samples will be different at different tables. In robot duplicate tournaments all the tables use the same deals, but not in the MBC.

OK thanks, now its clear for me. I played in MBC using the Windows client.

Is it in the works to provide GIB with the "best hand" knowledge? Even just adding that to the simulations might help its gameplay at the tourneys immensely.

No, there's no current plans to do that.

Yes, it seems to prefer a 95% 2 contract to a 90% 1NT contract. This is not proper matchpoint strategy.

It does it by estimating the matchpoint score of each contract with simulations, and choosing the one whose average MP is higher.

Well, I don't feel it's doing a very good job of it.

It is if it's doing its estimating based on other GIBs' bidding. Obviously this circular process is unlikely to change.

Rain - At MP, GIB chooses the contract that works most often.

The 2 are different though they will often result in the same answer.

Rain isn't a programmer. She was describing it informally (what does "works" mean in this context?), I was explaining how the code actually works.
