What do you think 1(2+)-X-P-3 means ? What are the upper/lower limits for this bid ?

I held xx, xx, AKxxxxx, xx as the 4th player

I bid 2 partner bid 3, doing any more ?

1d usually means 0-7 2d 8-10 and 3d 11-12 (the previous 3 generally denying a club stop) with most gf bids starting with 2c, The 1/2/3 d bids are for generally balanced hands. This hand has a huge amount of potential but the overall lack of power seems to take a 2c bid out of the picture but a nice 3c bid asking p to bid nt with a club stop should get the hand type across very nicely.

The problem is that with the 1 opener showing 2+, it's very likely not the club suit we need to stop.

"definitely that's what I like to play when I'm playing standard - I want to be able to bid diamonds because bidding good suits is important in bridge" - Meckstroth's opinion on weak 2 diamond

IMO your 2 bid is fine (7+ HCP 5+ s). Also 3 would be OK unless you've agreed it to be weak. Now over partner's 3, I rank
  • Pass = Not much more to say.
  • 4 = Well you do have 2 more s than you might have.
  • 3N = You can run to 4 if doubled.
