MP instant 34

Bidding 1N directly over 1S and then passing 3H is the winning action, and in hindsight sensible.
Or passing in 1st seat and letting North open weak 2H. Perhaps less sensible but works.

Limiting my losses to 5 down by winning first H in dummy and D up to K would net about 30% (7 down is 7%)

No-one tried an initial pass over 1S followed up by 1N over the double, so I don't know what that would have meant.

But I did not expect to end up declaring 4S undoubled, even though it outscores 1SX the other way (which I knew was a gamble).

Small point, but if West is going to wriggle out of 1SX then I feel that XX or 1N both provide more flexibility than 2C, which here loses the D fit and is lucky to find 3 card support.
