Takeout or bidding

Lets say you open 1♦ playing 2/1 with following hand AQ74 AQ AQ92 765. LHO bids 2♣ followed by 2 pass. I bid 2♠ which my p said was wrong since it promised 5♦. He said a takeoutdouble is a better bid and shows a stronger hand. As p is expected to bid ♥ I prefered to bid ♠. Its a reversebid so I cant see that a takeout shud show a stronger hand. So my question is takeout or 2♠

1) prefer 1nt 16-18 if tht is an option.
2) if not then 1d by x second choice.
I assume Mexican 2d not an open option to solve all.
you kind of play crappy system so you get crappy options but you know that

Double does not show a stronger hand. Something like AQxx xxx AQxxx x is an automatic double to cater for partner passing 2C to convert your double for penalties. Having said that, I do prefer double on this occasion, planning on bidding 2S over 2H to show the extras.

I'am facing this type of hands often in the last two weeks and turned to an over bid and bad score
AS GIB 2/1 dbl = 18 hcp so I'll choose this option but the following sequence is a buzzle
if p bid 2♥ should I bid 3♣ cue for 3nt? or just pass hoping for the best
Or p bid 2♠ should I pass or raise to 3 or 4?
when p bids 2nt pass or raise to 3?

I agree that bidding 2♠ implies 5+ diamonds.
As to what to do with this hand, I suppose double seems obvious, but I could understand a pass at matchpoints.

PASS. Partner couldn't make a negative double and didn't bid 2♦. Given my holding in ♣ it is highly unlikely that he is passing if I reopen with double.
My second choice is DBL. However I would PASS if he responded 2♥ since his hand is more likely to be worth a few tricks with ♥ as trump and could be worth less in ♠ or ♦.

LOL, advocating 1NT = 16-18 and telling other people their system is crap is quite rich!

Depending on the vulnerability, I probably go for "other".
At what vulnerabilities would you do something other than "other"? And what non-other action would you choose?
I think pass is obvious at any vulnerability and any form of scoring.

I would never pass this out at MPs. 2s just seems wrong since it takes us past 2D.
At IMPS it seems like a reasonable shot to hope for six tricks on defense. Game is possible on the right 7 count but it seems you need to find a specific hand That couldn't act over 2C.
