Your friend was robbed.... but let's deal with the specific questions.

1) Was there ANY adjustments in the tourney? The only way to tell is to look at each hand as it was played at each table and see if the number of tricks taken does not equalled the number score shown. That will take a long time. I will say this, there were a lot of average == (the hand skipped by software automatically due to time problem) and average -- (hand started and not finished). I did not see any Average+/- or Average -/+ which would show the director intervention. On the hand in question, I would have changed Average-- awarded to 5CN= so unless you looked at the hand you would not tell the play stopped early, and even then, you would not be able to tell if the claim was accepted or if the director corrected it after the round.

2) No way to see if adjust were made, so no way to answer number two without ASKING the director

3) See my response to unfair (let's say unethical) below... Here is the hand in question..

Scoring: IMP

West North East South

 Pass  1    1    3
 4    Dbl   Pass  5
 Pass  Pass  Pass

C4 CA C7 C3
D3 H2 DA D2
D7 D9 DJ S2
SK S4 S3 SA D6 D8 S5 D4
H6 H3 HA H7
SQ S6 H9 S7
S9 ST D5 SJ
CK C6 C5 CQ
C2 H4 C9 DQ <<--- this was a gift to the defense, but remainder are delarers, position with EAST to lead
Scoring: IMP

West North East South

 Pass  1    1    3
 4    Dbl   Pass  5
 Pass  Pass  Pass

You can see that EAST by stalling prevents 5 from making. He really didn't help his score much... The software assigned average minus to both sides, which was -3 imps each. For 5D making five, he EW would have gotten -3.7 imps, ns +3.7 imps. But the stall gave NS -3.0 imps as well...

IMHO, this situation is clear. EW should get -3.7 and ns plus 3.7. The claim should be enforced. Where the EW players "unfair"? Perhaps, but maybe one of the opponents were having a connection problem and so couldn't accept. I would not assume "intentional" refusal here. But I would not allow the automatic applied AVERAGE minus to stand either.

But clearly, if you or your friend has a problem with the director, a PUBLIC forum is not the place to take this up. Contact the director when he/she is not running an event and speak with them. Or write abuse.

i'm not sure but i *think* i was kibbing this hand... if not, it was almost the exact same scenerio... n/s, as ben put it, got robbed... there was no way the claim shouldn't have been accepted within 2 seconds
