Let's say you agree with your partner to play redouble of 3NT showing doubt.
In what situations would you simply bid straight away rather than redouble (i.e. redouble shows some doubt, but also some interest in playing 3NT)?
In what situations would redouble be natural, rather than showing doubt?

I stopped playing this years ago because it led to too much confusion. I just play redouble as strong now and if I'm sufficiently desperate, I run myself.
This isn't helpful, I know. I think in theory doubt-showing redouble is better, it's just we could never work out if it applied or not. And 3NTxx making comes up more often than you might think.

I think redouble should only be doubt-showing when it's by the putative declarer, and the double suggested some specific lead (eg dummy's suit). In other situations, redouble shows confidence, and pass implies some doubt.
I'd run if I had some problem other than what would be suggested by the redouble, like not having enough points, or not having a stopper I'd shown, or thinking the opponents knew better than I did.

... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

- In the first instance, redouble = no ♥ stop.
- Hence when partner passes (showing a ♥ stop), redouble = no ♠ stop.

I play the other way around:
- run = scared with a clear alternative place to play
- RDbl = no doubt, lets get some extra points
- pass = doubt
After pass, your partner can now pass as well and limit the damage, run himself, or RDbl as start of a scrambling sequence.
