Do you open 1 spade here?

I think with 10 HCP and 2 points for the singletons it's close. I have two four card majors, two aces, moderate side cards, but am a little short on points. Let's assume you pass. The bidding then goes
LHO : Pass
Partner : 1s
RHO : 2c

Your bid.

This hand has 12 cards. If you add any queen or the J then I would open. You don't seem to have one singleton, leave alone two.

Even with 13 cards and 11 points(adding the J) I would still pass this hand....there is no stuffing..just bare bones(!) :(

If my partner opens this hand with a 3rd club or diamond on a regular basis, I'm having us switch to a mini-NT so at least I know what to do when he or she opens this!

Even I would not open this!

Pass (Pass) 1 (2
??
IMO
  • As opener: Pass = 10, 1 = 7, playing 2/1. (But 1 = 10, Pass = 8, playing a strong 1 system).
  • Over 2: 2N (Good 4 card raise) = 10, 3 (UCB) = 9, 4 = 8, 3 = 7.
