I cannot, for the life of me, understand why anyone would want to do anything other than 5♣.

Any argument that 2♣ could lead to a constructive auction for our side pales in comparison to the cost of allowing the opps all that bidding space, when we know that we are going to be bidding 5♣ eventually, unless the auction takes a very unexpected turn.

IMO 5♣ = 10, 2♣ = 8, 3♥ = 6, 6♣ = 5. A lot of controls and playing strength. You might miss a slam or 3N but, In practice, pre-emption seems to work better.

3H doesn't even deserve a 6 on your scales where 6 sucks. An interesting conventional bid to find out if partner has a heart stopper to hold us to down 7.

The jump-cue might not work here but it's often overlooked and can be quite effective with sensible agreements.

It is usually based on a minor e.g. ♠K J x ♥ x x ♦ A K Q J x x x ♣ A, asking advancer to bid 3N with a stop. With a poor hand and no stop in opponent's suit, IMO, partner should bid 4♣, as an artificial negative. Other replies can then be natural and constructive. e.g. with ♠ Q x x x x x x ♥ x x ♦ x ♣ K J x, he can bid 3♠ suggesting a possible game in ♠.

The jump-cue is appropriate on other hands, even when 3N isn't a consideration. e.g. opponents open 1♥ and you hold
♠ A Q J x x x x x x ♥ - ♦ A Q J ♣ x.

• Pre-empting 4♠ might miss a slam.
• Overcalling 1♠ might win the auction.
• Doubling might leave you on-lead at the one level.

Hence, IMO, you should seriously consider a jump-cue.

Oh dear... This hand fits perfectly in my home grown 1egin-system: 4♠ showing 3 card ♠ with a top honour and a long minor which isn't solid. Partner can bid 4NT to ask the minor, so we don't have to put an 8+ card suit on the table.

Seriously, 5♣ is obvious, and if you really want to rate 3♥ it's definitely worse than 6♣!
