This hand came up in an ACBL Speedball. IMPs

2NT shows the reds. 3 is meant to show some sort of good fitted hand, but was not discussed.

You happen to know that your partner and your opponents are conservative bidders, so assume everyone has their bid.

Would you bid on?

Are you serious? I have AJx of H and KQxx of Ds? I would bid 5D and be worried about missing 6.

Yeah I would never sell out to any contract. I guess 7S I'd be forced to.

Sigh OK. This is unanimous - was hoping at least some of you would be in doubt like I was :P

So I passed, and it was right to bid up to the sky. Weirdly a lot of tables played in spades, some never even competed at all. At least I'm not the only one scared of vulnerability :)

Sorry Larry, abandoning LOTT on this auction.

You are right to - there appear to be only 21 TTs rather than the expected 22.

As an aside, I would take 3 as asking for the better suit without discussion. Using it as a form of relay is also good but needs agreement.
