East deals and passes, NS vulnerable against not.
At our table the auction went:
1♣-1♥ : 16+ unbalanced, 18+ balanced; gf, 8+ hcp, 2+ ctls, 4+♠
1♠-2♣ : relay; 4+♦
2♦-2♠: relay; 55+ in my suits
2nt-3♦: relay; 11 in the side suits (or 00)
3♥-4♣: relay; I should have bid 3nt to show longer♦ but I thought I was showing 4 controls
4♥-4♠: to play; I have extras, and 0 or 2 of AK of spades
5♥-pass: I don't care, we are playing hearts; I'm very sad but ok.
We've wrongsided it with the 65 hand as dummy, and the opening lead is a low heart. I plead temporary insanity (easily top 3 worst plays this nationals), because I tried to run it to the 9 for an entry to my hand, not that this was going to be good enough to do enough pitches unless qx tight of spades with only one heart - but I somehow thought there were only 5 club's in dummy and 3 sure losers while 2 pitches on spades would make it 2 only losers. This lost and clubs were 3-3 for a hand which should make 5 was down one.
Opponents bid it:
1♥-2♦: natural; natural gf
3♥-3♠: set trump demand cue; cue
4♣-4♥: cue; sign off
6♥-pass: no sign off!
Teammates on the auction that doesn't reveal the giant misfit tried a spade from 3 little through the spade cue bid and now can ruff a club in the dummy and make 6.
Minus 100 and minus 1430 is lose 17. Not a good board for match 7 needing only about 10 vp in the last 2 matches combined.
Edited to switch dealer from West to East.
