I'll double and lead a top heart. Sounds like East is pre-emptively sacrificing against our 6H, based on a huge club suit with a diamond fit.

edit: well that didn't work out too well.

Or maybe a huge diamond fit and wanting a club lead against 7?

I doubled and led a trump which worked out fine but might not have done, but if I bid 7 on that sort of hand, partner has Kxxx, void, Qxxxxxx, xx and nobody's making anything.

You have this hand, partner has made a non-forcing raise, and you think you are being bounced out of 6H? I would check the backs of the cards before I made that assumption. I think rho is bidding for a make.

I doubled and played a spade.
Was good enough but trump was better from principle.
Heart attack seemed me bad.

Why on earth would you double with no tricks? Your RHO leapt to a grand slam and you have zero honors in the opponents suits and no length either. How many are you expecting to beat them lol. If partner has lots of minor suit tricks I'm sure he'll figure out to double.

If you are going to save you should save with 7D IMO to involve spades since spades could be a lot better if partner has only 3 hearts, it sounds like he might not have that many clubs/diamonds which would leave him with some spades!

Saving is probably a reasonable thing to do, it rates to be cheap if partner is actually short in clubs but my general strategy is to just pass in spots like this, everyone is guessing a little bit and I hope I can beat them.

As far as what to lead, it is between a trump or a heart. A heart is possible only if you think they might be the types to be trying to bluff you into saving or out of a heart lead, after all who would ever lead a heart on this auction?

I mean, I dunno what the 7C bid could be unless he thinks dummy is hitting with a heart void, he might be gambling with 4 small hearts or something on either a non heart lead or a void in dummy, I might well lead a heart at the table if my opp was a somewhat tricky guy. Maybe I should just save :) It could be an expensive save though if someone really does have a heart void. The more I think about it the more I think it is unlikely either of them is really void in hearts so I'm leading a heart and calling the bluff.

I was expecting a lot of solid clubs and 2 or 3 diamonds for this bid, where he's going to save over 6 so may as well do it immediately and maybe induce a 7 bid when it's wrong. Opps will most likely show a first round diamond control if they have one or double but may be missing the club control.

Is A10xxx, Jxxx, xxxx, void implausible for partner where 6 has good play ? (for DBoxley)

it seems unlikely I will get hammered for more than down 3 and
so a save over a making 7c looks like it could be a reasonable
gamble. If the opps know me they take more frequent fliers since
I hate to let them score huge numbers when it is reasonable to
avoid them. There is nothing in the bidding to prevent rho from
holding void void Axx AKxxxxxxxx and taking the position that 7c
is the way to go. It certainly is odds against but rho bidding
7c as a sac against our 6h when n has shown a limit raise??

Surely a 6c bid would have been more than sufficient to close
us out since it would be virtually impossible to bid 6h on anything
more than a pure guess. I feel rho has a hand they feel will offer
legitimate play for 7c and is hoping we will not believe such a thing
is credible (it does sound pretty far fetched).

The real problem here might be a hole in our bidding arsenal since this
is such a rare circumstance. Since it is almost completely impossible for
south to desire a grand slam opposite a limit raise------ it might be a
far superior tactic to use x as penalty and pass as saying I cannot penalize
and leave it up to north to penalize or bid 7h. N should have some discretion
about bidding 7h depending on vulnerability and the reason for their limit
raise but the concept seems sound. This hand would pass and leave it up to
their partner. I yield the floor to those that can imagine a 1h bid that seeks
to bid a grand under these conditions to make so that a forcing pass still
makes sense.

without this handy tool it might be better to just bid 7h.
