I'm thinking spades because the HA is going to get knocked out and we haven't the entries to ruff out a spade to ensure against a 3-1 spade break. Are the slams equivalent as far as safety goes? I.e. you can always draw trump (in a club slam) ending in dummy (having unblocked spades) and then see if spades run. I suppose you might undertrick worse in a club slam when they don't.

What do others think?

I'm thinking I'd rather just play 4S.

But yes, on say D lead to A followed by heart switch, you can't ruff a spade. In a spade slam you can draw trumps before running clubs. If spades are 4-0 and clubs 3-1, then in a club slam you might go loads off whereas in spades you'd just be one off.

Goes to show, the adage of "what do you call an 8-card suit?" is probably right :)

Don't you have another entry if clubs split 22?
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

Only if you take the second club in dummy which only works on the 40% chance of 2-2 clubs, an inferior line.

If clubs split 31 you still make if spades split 22 if rho has 3 clubs. 6S requires 22 spades. 6 requires 22 clubs or a specific 31 clubs or even 40 if spades 22.

Yes. And, you might drop stiff Queen.

The 40 clubs is a problem, though. But, that might be fatal to 6S also.
