Favourable, MPs, second in.

S bids 3S.

What's your call? Does it affect your final decision if you've visibly tanked first?

I pass. If I tanked (which I probably did) I bid 4.

pass
Just not enough defense if the bidding continues. I think there
is a reasonable amount of offensive potential here and if p were a
passed hand I would start with 4h intending to bid 5d over 4s. The
problem here is that p is unlimited and might want to take a bite
out of 4s actually expecting us to (gasp) have values for our 4
level bid (either red suit). If p makes some kind of noise at their
next turn I will probably overbid with this excellent offensive hand:)

4 - someone has to bid and partner will likely have too many spades unless he's strong enough to bid 3nt. when your hand is as distributional as this you just have to do the manly thing - there are many hands where partner's not strong enough to act and we're making game and opps are making 3s.
if lho cracks 4h i'll run away.

This is favorable. 4 followed by 5 if the rest of the auction causes me to judge that they're making 4. There isn't a "right answer" here in my view--only table feel and expected outcomes.

In other words: I don't mind taking -300 or -500 at favorable when game is going down for them, once in a while, if that's the worst that can possibly happen. I think I will improve our score by getting active here more often than I make it worse.
There is a big difference between a good decision and a good result. Let's keep our posts about good decisions rather than "gotcha" results!
