Yes, I suppose South should pass 1NT, but shouldn't North bid 2 on a singleton club?

I assume South bid 2 not East.

South's actions are debatable but North's failure to double 1, then 1NT over 1 and finally pass of 2 are the worst calls of the auction and contributed by far the most to the bad result.

Sounds like the two previous replies were based on different versions of the auction.

North should indeed correct to 2. South has shown take-out shape by passing 1, he will have three hearts.

North of course should correct to 2H to make the best of a bad situation.

South apparently got ahead of himself. He intended to lead 2, but accidentally bid it instead.
