Double, cannot expect P to balance.

I think I would pass and hope partner doesn't balance

How go you find the right exit if they double? Is someone who bids a three-card spade suit supposed to bid their four-card minor one level higher? This could easily be another 4-3 fit.

It's a toss up between X and Pass. The shape argues for a Pass, but the hand is probably too strong for it.

Right you are, 2NT is a way out, but no garantee... and anyway, once they start doubling.....
I will stand with 2spades, I guess.
You need to be at the table :).
Still, I go for double....

I don't understand this. Partner has short hearts, and anytime you have a game, and the majority of the time when you have a making partscore, partner will balance. On the other hand, if you double you are entering a live auction at the 2 level where only one opponent has limited themselves, where you have 12 working HCP outside of their suit, and with unexpectedly terrible shape. What about this hand says that we should be declaring on hands where partner would pass out 2H?

I doubled at the table, in part because I didn't think my life was going to get any easier if partner balanced with a double - what do I call with this hand then?

This didn't fare well when partner jumped to 3♠ on a four card suit and decent hand - a completely reasonable call by him.

I prefer pass initially but don't hate double.

If p makes a balancing double bid 2NT if that's natural for you. If 2NT shows both minors (as it would for me) it's a decision between that and 2♠.

2♠ risks p being 31(54) and 'pick a minor' risks him being 4144. I would lean towards 2♠ - p is weak and more likely to have 4♠ for his double plus the fact that if the opps double 2♠ you can scramble.
