Do you commit to a major suit game? Switching seats, do you like slam?

Matchpoints.

You can expect East to have a traditional/solid 3D pre-empt, even non-vul.

Questions:

1. Would you have done something in direct seat as South?

2. As shown above as North, do you commit your side to a major-suit game?

3. As South, if you initially passed and partner shows the majors and commits to game, what are your thoughts on slam? If North's bid is 4 showing majors, what would you do?

1) I bid 3nt as South. Pass will bring +150 too often.

2) Yes, but then I opened 1S

3). I have an effective 10 count, p has a 10 count. I bid 4H and hope to not get doubled...

#1 yes, how about 3NT?
#2 ..., first reaction was no, why should I, but I have to, to find the right fit.
#3 why should I dream about slam? partner is a passed hand.
Given that he forced to game, he his 5/5 6/5, but still the answer is no.
But I would not be in this place.

Wow, quadruple post followed by triple post. WTF??

Agree with 3NT as South. I imagine (3D)-3NT-(p)-4D shows both majors (what else could it mean...) so that's North's ideal bid, and we end in 4H.

I definitely bid 3N as south.

As north, I would indeed have bid 4D over south's pass

As south, if I had passed and north had bid 4D, I would commit us to slam, since I don't have a good way to find out about losers in the majors. If 4N were 6KCBW over 4D, I would employ that.

A little unlucky on this deal. Had south bid 3N, though, we would be in fine shape, as north would have bid 4S or 4D (pick).

I would bid 3 as N, S would bid 3N, N would bid 4, and S would pass. There is no need to move toward slam as S with 7 points in diamonds, and opposite a passed hand partner, with a preempt indicating possible bad splits, and a decent chance of a ruff on opening lead.

I don't mind michaels, but I feel like partner will choose hearts with 2-2, so I want to bid my suits in length order. If partner does not raise or correct to 3N, then I am probably happy to be in 3 anyway.

I am certainly not bidding 3N as South. Partner has a stiff/void and if he has some values he will surely act. If he doesnt I will take my +100 and move on. Cant imagine we can make 3N if partner doesnt find a bid, suits will be breaking poorly and there is no source of tricks in sight.

after 3-p-p I think I would try 4
