playing 2/1 with a good pick up partner, MPs.

I bid 2d at the table, have i lost my mind?
I figured that it will help us find the best strain and if partner has a c or d fit the hand is huge. Even if partner's hand is awful there will probably be some play for 3n if partner has the Q

I'm with 2D. It's typical to respond aggressively with freaky hands, even if it is a misfit, if the tricks are probably there. Had I a 1-dimensional hand, I would try maybe 1N then invite in diamonds, but this is a bit too freaky, and I like that cJ.

IMO 2 = 10, 1N = 7. It's risky but IMO, you should start to describe your shape,

I would have bid 3 showing invitation hand with 6+ diamonds. If this is not available, i would just bid 2 and then 3 if this is NF. Playing 2 % 100 GF, i would bid 1NT and then 3.

You will rarely find pd with no wasted spade values vs your void when he opens 1 and it being MP makes missing games not as big loss as in IMP. I think our opening style is important, if you are opening hands which others may or may not open, inviting with invitation values is very important while forcing to game without even knowing that your side has a fit and/or insufficient values, usually leads to nasty scores.

But hey, you found a good hand from pd this time. It is all good at the end Posted Image

I agree with MrAce here at MP and those 3 little scare me.

Playing 2/1, I think the 2 bid is better than the 1 bid was.

I would have bid 3 invitational if I could. If p doesn't have many diamonds, you are unlikely to be making much...

I think the OP states it correctly that it is a question of evaluation. IMO, the hand is good because of the AKA, bad because of the lack of spots, good because of the 6-card suit, and bad because of the void in partner's suit - in other words, the hand is worth 11.

In most systems, 11 is not a game force. I would hope to have available a direct 3D invite or some other invite sequence. If not, I bid 1N and hope.

There is a serious misfit warning. Better bid 1NT, planning to rebid 3D (or pass) over the expected 2S by opener.

I admit I peeked at the spoiler first but I've had really good luck with hands like this by bidding a forcing notrump and finding out some things about partners shape before pulling the trigger. First in to the auction can describe their hand faster than I can describe mine to partner most of the time.

Here after 1nt partner bids 2 and I can jump to 3 a flavor of the impossible major that means if I knew you had diamonds I think I had a game force.

With a pick up partner you can look like a masterminding idiot if 1nt blows up on you (2 from partner) but only look like an optimist bidding (the called for) 2

like most questions hand evaluation is not in a vacuum--partners bidding plus
anticipated rebid problems usually lead to the best course of action. This
collection may turn out badly opposite a weak misfit from partner but that is
the case on most hands. We have enormous rebid problems if we opt for
1n and we have smooth flowing bidding if we bid 2d. The risk of getting too
high is indeed present but being "safe" may lead to a ummm errr inferior
contract and possibly eliminate slam all in the name of fear.

If I had some hcp in hearts I would be more hesitant to call this hand game forcing
but with all of our power concentrated in our two long suits this hand is worth more
like 16 and even of we subtract 3 points for our void in p suit we still have an
opening hand. IMHO

2d = 9 1n = 4

2d will not always be right but is should work out best the vast majority of the time.

What extras do I have over a usual invitation in diamonds? I see none, so I will invite.

In 2/1 g.f., 2/1 is game forcing. You don't have a game force. If you don't have 1NT as absolutely forcing, then 3D must be used as the invite with diamonds.

2D is possible if you don't really play 2/1, or you play Roth/Stone or Fantunes opening bids.
