I honestly don't know what to lead, other than feeling that a ♠ is probably wrong. Leading the ♥ will at least win the post-mortem.

Pro to client: If I bid a suit, and you're making the opening lead, lead my suit. If you don't have a card of my suit, go find another deck.

I think I would go with the heart, for want of anything better. It's not like we have a nice 5-card suit of our own that partner might hold a couple of useful cards in.
My alternative would be the D8.

Are we to assume "systems off" and the 2 ♥ response implied 4♠, or transfers so that it implied 5? Are these OPP good enough
to make a decision to play NT with 4-4 ♠ fit? Anyway, I will lead partner's suit.

Lead the ♥.
You hold 2 HCP. Opponents bid game freely in a strong auction. They are likely to hold 26-29 HCP. With more, they might have tried for slam. That leaves partner some 9-12 or more HCP. Partner also has a 5+ card suit. So, on the assumption that partner has 1 maybe 2 more entries, it is in our favor to attack in our side's longest suit. Partner's 1♥ is sound information. Any minor suit is a pure guess. ♠ is pure folly - declare has 4 of them thanks to Stayman.

You're incorrect with your assumption that partner holds 5+ hearts. You play strong NT and 4 card majors in a majors first style. Please refer to the OP

A more substantial clue is that partner failed to double the 2♥ bid. Would double demand a ♥ lead, or as suggested by
Kantar, Bergen and Lawrence in 5 card major land, ask for another lead?. A heart is presumably a poorer lead if a double would
suggest a heart lead.

If my partners PASS of 2H suggested to lead H that is what I would do. If PASS suggested he would stand another lead I would lead a D. If I had no agreement I would lead a D or C depending on how long it took me to choose which one (I like the D. I just could never lead a H unless told to do so.

Agree.
Usually, when my partner is void in my suit, he apologizes for not leading it, but that he had a valid excuse. My response is that he didn't even try to lead my suit.
On this hand, there is NO reason for not leading partner's suit. You have a terrible hand (unless you have a particular fondness for nines) without a strong suit. Partner has all of the entries. Lead his suit.

Agree. I prefer the ♦9 when I'm not leading hearts.
