thanks, at the table I chose to pass but afterwards I thought I probably should have opened 3clubs even though I didn't have a 7 card suit.. I'll know for next time :)

Some players do play that a 3 level opening promises a 7 card suit. Obviously if that is your agreement then you stick to it. Most these days play a more fluid style. Robson/Segal has made this style very popular even at club level and BBF is generally dominated by aggressive bidders anyway. This is also the style I prefer and it is a clear 3 for me in this seat/vulnerability. But my partner also knows to expect this. With a pick up partner I might be tempted to pass even when I think 3 is clearly better. They will probably not think anything of a pass but if I open and it goes badly they will lose trust and it will probably hurt us more than the potential gain in the long run.

Definitely 3: you have a 6-4 in the minors and a decent suit, favorable vulnerability and you're in first seat. I couldn't care less about that missing 7th .
