Some play double is stayman and transfers are on using lebensohl only for 2 or higher overcalls.
Also on a 3 level overcall playing a double as negative for unbid suits.

Is this the best way to play this?

It's the simplest way to play, and not likely to create huge disasters. But "best" requires different strategies depending on what hand types 2c shows. One probably wouldn't want to bid exactly the same way against 2c showing any one suiter (capp) as one would vs. 2c showing the majors, etc.

I like to play take out double and natural bids, it is simpler for me, although I know it looks super sophisticated for americans.

Everything is sophisticated looking to us.
