east has no business doing anything at his second turn to act either. doubling there would show good diamonds and a hand unable to act originally. it's easy to understand that because that's the only hand ieast can have which wants to bid but which couldn't bid originally. with his actual hand he has no reason to want to bid - he's perfectly happy defending 1nt.

you need to get upto about 15 points before you need to worry about making off-centre doubles just because you have points. the idea being that if you're longish in the opps' suit, then partner is short and will act/will already have acted if he has enough values for you to actually make anything.

I agree with pretty much everything in wank's post but going a step further, after 1♦ - P - 1♠ - P; 1NT - P - 2♦, I would consider coming in with the West hand if it was Love All at MPs. This is obviously not without risk but it is also risky in those circumstances to let the opponents play in their 8 card minor fit at the 2 level.

Hi,

East has a TOX after the 1NT rebid by North.
If you do it, is matter of personal preference, it is pretty risky,
since North did limit his hand, so South knowes what is on, and has
a simple way to show interest in going for blood, by sending it back
with XX.

if the X occurrs, holding 8HCP South is on the border for sending it
back, but it is close.

remember that once the opps bid 2 suits then subside in NT partscore (here if south goes back to diamonds after 1NT, east can reevaluate and come back to the party), that normally means they have no fit (particularly in major suits). if they have no fit, you probably don't either.

there are plenty of other no fit auctions where you need to be careful too. remember that once the opponents have exchanged information about their own suits point counts and realised they don't have a fit it's easy for them to double you. as such, delayed actions are best left to when they show a fit.

imagine you have a 1345 shape and the opps bid 1d (you pass because your clubs aren't good enough for 2♣ let's assume) 1s (pass from partner) 2s. this is now an excellent position for a delayed action. you're showing a takeout double of spades, normally with too much in diamonds to have found a bid originally. the opps will have fewer cards in your suits because they have 8+ (normally) in spades.
