4, most of all because I want to  . Yes, I want a spade lead; but, partner is a smart person who might guess the futility of a heart lead.. and I might be able to double a cue on the next round if responder is void to suggest leading something else.

5 for me - take up room, make them guess. If I'm -2 (doubled), they can probably make 5/6. If I'm -3, it's still a good save. Worst case is when partner holds (for example) xx/Ax/xxx/xxxxxx and neither side makes, but in that case w're probably down in 4 and they probably can't see a set either.

Without a spade control, they will not guess often to bid more then X of 5 . And if partner has no tricks, we can be down 4. Much too much against a minor suit game. But if partner holds a trick, they are in trouble.

I will stick to 4 and X 5 or 5 .
Kind Regards

Roland

4, but limiting the chances of a spade lead against 5 in the process.
