5♠
Not a request to bid slam with a diamond control.
Just a general slam invitation after a preempt.

5♥ - must be a cue. can't be suggesting a new suit at the 5 level after being unable to bid at the 4 level. the 4d bid massively improves your hand. now you know the qx of clubs is a great holding.

5♥ makes me feel ill.
There are groupings of hands that wants to:
1) Bid 4♥ over 4♦.
2) Pass, intending to bid hearts on the next round (usually over a double).
BTW, I had more or less this auction with Les Steel once and it did not end well (or rather it ended too quickly).

Definitely think 5H is a cuebid and feel so strongly about it that I have no problem doing it undiscussed. But the main thing is, don't pass, both your cards are extremely likely to be working, your doubleton is likely working, and you have 3 card support, I think it's more likely we make 7S than go down in 6.

So the question is: Do 4 ♠ sets trump? I would not be sure. so 5 ♥ asks for a misunderstanding, so II would bid 5 ♠. My partner will take this as asking about diamond control, but this is fine to me...

2C-4D-P-P: at this point of the auction 4S should be a statement rather than a question, i.e., I hold a single-suited hand. Of course, this all gets back to the initial question of how does the partnership define a 2C opening hand. Any of the big balanced and semi-balanced hands should reopen here with double, IMO. The real trick is what to do with big 2-suiters, which is hard. I favor double, then pull as the reopening action.
If that is the case, 4S is a single-suited hand. and 5H is clearly a cue bid.
But the issue is not so much what to do in this auction but "what are your 2C opening and reopening agreements?"

I agree that we make grandslam more often than we go down in 6.
Diamond ruff is very likely though for defense.

Surprised to see people excited about a slam. Yes, partner is short in diamonds... but we may have promised him one working card already with the pass-not-double on the previous round, and I don't see any reason to be expecting better than the usual 3- or 4-loser hand from partner.
It would not have even crossed my mind to take a call here.
I do agree that 5H now must be a cuebid.
