Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the 3.

Depends on your overcall style, ours are extremely sound so we would definitely bid on this as partner wouldn't X then bid unless he had a 20 count.

easy pass. 1 2 is very tricky, for both sides, so we agree to play this bid quite wide ranged. If partner has 17 good this time, I may miss something. But usually he holds less...

Easy pass. This is a trashy hand with no fit. Anyway, what would you bid? 2NT? 3C. Both of those are awful.

There are certainly hands where I would bid 3C on a doubleton but this is definitely not one of them.

You had a shot at a unanimous poll here if only you posted this as a poll.

Pass.

I can only assume from the fact that you posted this that the 2 bidder had a massive overcall and did not like the pass.

Yes, pass. I'll take my chances that even if partner has 17 good we aren't missing anything. If I bid, he'll often have a bit less than a super max and continue on to a bad game. My hand is a trashy 8 count.

What do you think is more likely in this hand in these following situations:

(a)We play 4 vs They play in Diamonds
(b)We play 2 vs They re-open

(a) We play 4? Are you implying that partner has a strong 5/6 black suited hand? Certainly not likely. If they balance and partner bids 3 then they have made a serious error, as I will raise to game. If they balance and partner bids 2 I am not going to move towards game.

(b) If partner has a strong semi-balanced hand, his 2 call may end the auction. If they balance with 2 or a double and partner passes, I am not planning on getting into the auction.
