For the vast majority of the time and for the vast majority of opps, I would draw their attention to it immediately. I can think of possible exceptions though
"Pass is your friend" - my brother in law - who likes to bid a lot.

When the situation occurred with me some years ago, my opp was Brian Keable aka thebiker on these boards and I thought he would eventually through gritted teeth see the funny side so I played on and when trumps broke 2-2 in my 5-3 fit, I knew what was going on.
In a club game, unless it was somebody who deserved it, I would have pointed this out.

If I was playing in anything other than social deal-and-play bridge, for no stakes, I'd tell them. I'd hope to receive the same courtesy.
Of course, if it's a speedball, I'd probably be even less likely to notice.

At club evenings I'd tell him, during a tournament I wouldn't.
