speculative double to expose a psych (1D)--X--(1Nt)--X ??

IMPS and
1D is 11-15 precision.

Is it a good strategy for south to double agressively with some (8-9 pts) to protect you against a psych or weakish response. If the pts are split you are risking 3or6 imps to gain 2or5 and you probably give opener a XX to show both m with longer D (2C would show C equal or longer than D) and a give him more info on how to play the hand. Also after a tight double you cannot play forcing pass.

Im not even sure if its a good spot for east to respond light at Imps.
From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.

The strategy to expose a psychic response is a byproduct of the double, I guess. We call it a "sorta" responsive double with an expectation of 9 or ten pts and probably 3-3-4-3.

The danger might be if partner's double is the light call, so I don't really know how great our strategy is.

I think it's a good strategy to play double as balanced values, starting at about an 8-count. That's not specifically to expose a psych, it's just to tell partner what I've got. There isn't even any reason to suspect a psych. For example, the strength might be distributed 12-12-8-8 around the table.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

I think the danger in this auction is "we have Majors, they're making
our finding our M-fit difficult" So, the 8's with 4M-4M get in with
double; not having MM or 5+M, even 10's probably can leave partner to
continue the fight or not.

I just play it as responsive. Also about 8+ points but inviting partner to compete, so showing two suits excluding diamonds.

We don't need a mountain to cue 2D and find our major after a takeout double. Even 7 is enough to do that. That's just us, however. Doubler assumes the minimum, but 4-4M, and continues accordingly with the next bid.
