From JLogic in another thread:

Quote

1C 1D
1N 2D* (art gf)
2N 3H (shortness)
3S 4S

Would you be so kind as to provide a full description of this method? I would be grateful.

I don't actually play non strong club or non transfers over 1C with anyone anymore and haven't for a long time, but I used to play you bid 2M with 4-6 or 5-6, bid checkback with 4-5, and if partner bids 2N that 3M is shortness.

Similarly I have always played that 1m 2m 2N 3M is shortness (in inverted minors), 1m 2N 3M is shortness (whether 2N is forcing or inv), etc. Basically once you don't have a major suit fit and your partner has indicated a balanced hand and bid 2N, it makes sense to play 3M as shortness.

I'm sure there is better stuff available if you wanna relay or put in more work but it's pretty simple.

In the former case, what if you had that shape and wanted to force?

2M GF, if you want to invite 2C (forcing 2D), then 2M to sho 4-6 invite. With 4-5 invite I bid 1M, if you bid 1D with that then maybe you need something different

Our full method is as follows:

1x - 1M - 1NT - ?

2: Signoff in or any invitation
2: Any GF
2 (after prev. 1): 5 4 weak
2M: Signoff
2 (after prev. 1): 6 4 GF
2NT: GF 3-suited with shortness in other major
3m: Signoff
3 (after prev. 1): 5 5 GF
3M: Slam invite with 6-card M
3N: Signoff
Bid above 3M: Splinter

2 forces 2, then responder can invite naturally
2 asks partner to describe his hand naturally (GF situation). If you like you can add relays here.

You should put more hands in the 2 sequence. For instance 1x-1M-1NT-2-2-3nt as GF with 5M and some 5332 shape seems like a pretty good treatment. If you go through 2 and then bid 3M or above you can have some slammish hands in there too (although by frequency the 5332 GF CoG seems like the most important one).
