The 2 was a one suited hand and was not alerted.

Should 2 be alerted or not? It might just wake partner up to what is happening.

Thank you

You left out some vital information, but assuming you're talking about a Cappelletti auction or something similar, yes it should. If it wakes partner up, he'll just have to deal with that (he has UI and must not take advantage of it).

Thank you. Cappelletti auction was exactly what it was.

A frequent occurrence when pard has failed to alert. You might suspect, and this is UI to you, that 2D is not the neutral noise it is supposed to be; but that is your agreement and is alertable. A good mindset here would be to pretend partner alerted 2C, and proceed.

As Ed stated, if partner truly forgot your convention and was bidding naturally, that is his UI to cope with.

I am lucky that my partner's failures to alert are 99.99 % genuine forgetting to alert, and the only thing I am waking her up to is her own absent minded failure to alert. The byproduct is that in alerting 2D, I also wake the opponents up to the artificial meanings of BOTH bids; and, that is a good thing.

Another point: partner fails to alert 2; you alert 2; partner wakes up - she should have alerted 2. She must call the director immediately and explain that she failed to alert 2 (see Law 20F4). This is important because your partner's LHO may be allowed to change his call (Law 21B).
