6NT makes if s break 2-2, however if they break 3-1 and the Q does not drop, even 3NT will be in danger since South is nearly entryless. If s are trumps, again, if the Q drops, there is a slam. If it does not drop, the slam makes when a finesse in either or is successful since the extra winner can cover a loser in s. However, if the finesse fails, the opponents are able to draw the loser immediately. 5 is cold in this case.

What contract will you bid and how will you bid it? If North deals, 1 is opened; if South deals, 4 is opened.

Slam is good, but far cold. I wouldnt mind to be in it, but I wouldnt worry too much if I missed it and it happens to make.

If South opens 4C, North has an easy raise to 5.

If North opens 1, we would bid 3-natural invitational and North will probably settle for 3NT. I see no sensible way to get to the much better 5 in our methods.

1 - 3? Jump shift?! What does your 2 mean then?

For me 2 would be Gameforcing, playing 2/1.

How about bidding 5? I bet that gets you there.

3NT should be fine if partner has at least 2 clubs. But there is no way of knowing that, so I don't take the chance that the clubs are running.

Besides, if clubs are running, you may make a slam. I think the chances that you will go plus in 5 are better than in 3NT, and your 5 bid may not end the auction if partner has the right hand.

Well partner doesnt really an 8 card suit for his 3 bid. A typical hand would be xx Qxx Ax KJ10xxx.

I see no sensible way to get to the inferior 3NT in our methods. I would just bid 5C over 1S, and hope partner does not think it is Exclusion Blackwood.

Natural invitational 3 on AK eighth of clubs and a side Q (admittedly a singleton Q, but still a Q)? What do you need to force to game?

Sorry I didn't mention this in my prior post.

Most players are willing to play in an 8 card fit, even more so when all 8 are in the same hand.

Our auction:

1-2(10+ ish not GF)
2N(15+ GF not necessarily balanced)-3(at least 5)
3(nat)-4(now a suit playable opposite a singleton)
4(KC)-4N(2 without)
6(looks like AK 8th or AK 7th and a card)

May we ignore the part in the OP about the club queen dropping?
