With a random partner it is a guess. I would bid 3NT and hopefully from his length in hearts he will know it to be not natural, and therefore be both minors. If he bids one, I raise to game.

If you think 3NT could be taken as natural, you could bid 4. He will probably NOT take that as natural, so will probably bid 4. Then 5 from you should make him think, and probably deduce you have both minors.

If you think that is too risky, then just 4. You may get an opportunity for 5 later.

This hand doesn't quite feel strong enough to force to the 5-level opposite a passed hand. I would just bid 4D.

edit: also, LOL at 3H. Second hand in requires a good suit, or so I heard.

I am pretty sure that I have no agreement with any partner, random or otherwise, about how to handle this so I look forward to hearing about this.At the table I I would bid 4 or I would pass. I would never even consider 3NT.

I see from tyhe posted four hands (thanks for that) that pass is the winner, and that is even when partner shows up with the ace of hearts and diaomnd support, and the suit splits 3-2. Would I restrain myself? I dunno.

Anyway, I pass or bid my diamonds, depending on whether I am feeling lucky. LOTT says that there are 18 total tricks. I don't see them.

And if someone has a better idea, I look forward to seeing it.

Depending on agreements and the exact hand you have, your options with both minors here are: Pass; 4m (assuming not agreed as NLM); Double followed by 4; and 4NT. I dislike 4 and really hate 3NT. Even world class players have disagreements when using 3NT as Unusual, to do it in a pick up partnership is plain crazy.
