1 NT seems right because you don't have any honors beyond the 10 in your long suit.

If you open 1 , then you've got a rebid problem over pard's major suit response. 2 understates the value of the hand. Your suit isn't good enough for jump rebid of 3 .

1 NT and if PD objects, find a more modern PD.

Yes, but.....

T9xxxx sucks. Unless partner fits diamonds, we'll have a tough time establishing the suit, so would not criticize 1.

Now this is what i call "hand analysis of 2012" :P

I would open this 1 NT, naively, without thinking that T9xxxx sucks and so opening it and rebidding could give a better picture of my shape and strenght and trump quality to pd...or without thinking T9xxxx is hard to establish suit so opening it and rebidding 1NT, downgrading this perfectly balanced 15 hcp with a 6 card suit may have some merits. After all i had no idea that we should try to figure our tricks before we open 1NT with a 15 hcp balanced hands. I mean i saw people who wouldn't open 1 NT because they have xx but this is the first time i see someone mentioning merits of not opening 1NT because one of the suit is T9xxxx !!!

Phil, if you were a lawyer who is hired to defend this 1 opener in the "court of bridge game" , your chances to rescue your client from death penalty would be much higher if you based your defense on " my client missorted his cards" But i think regardelss of how you defend it, the verdict by 12 honest men would come in the "first degree" bro (unless you provide the jury by the cc that they actually play weak NT) :D

I am just saying... :P
"Genius has its own limitations, however stupidity has no such boundaries!"
"It's only when a mosquito lands on your testicles that you realize there is always a way to solve problems without using violence!"

"Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's view's and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one's valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say."

Would open this a strong no trump in a heartbeat.

Playing weak no trump, this is also awkward, 1-1-1N is easy, but what do you rebid over 1-1 ?

Forum style would be to raise hearts. I think I would try 1NT, though. 2 is ok as well.

But I think 3NT has decent chances opposite an average 10-count so I sell it as a strong NT.

More interesting yet is whether to open this 1 in the context of a weak NT, unbalanced diamond system.
