It does not show a double fit because 3♦ handles those hands and is forcing. So the trump suit is clearly spades. As for what it shows, my guess would be a diamond control but it might depend on what other options are available in the system. This is the kind of bid I would simply never make with a pick-up partner.

What is 3 ♦ over 2 ♠ for you?

To me 3♦ would be a short suit game try and 4 diamond does not exist.
If 3 ♦ is natural and forcing or a kind of HSGT, 4 ♦ sounds like a splinter.
If 3 ♦ is natural and non forcing, I would change my methods after the hand and take4 ♦ as natural and forcing and would not use KC at all- and if, it would be 6 cards KC.

I copied a thread from March 2002, which asked about the following sequence :

1C - 1S
2S - 4C = ??

SPLINTER ( for ♠ as trump ) was the answer .

One way to look at it is that 3C would have been forcing; thus, 4C = a jump over a ( same suit ) forcing bid ... which is the generic definition for a splinter.

3D - 3S = double fit, and ♠ is the established suit for RKC

B) NO double fit
1D - 1S
3S - 4D = ♦ cuebid, denying a ♣ cue and ♠ is absolutely the trump suit .

C) The only Exception to ( A ) above:
1S - 2H ( 2/1 GF )
3H - 3S = ♠ cue bid, ♥ is the established suit, ostensibly NO double-fit .

Looking at the answers, nobody seems to care about:

• 2♠ being a 3crd raise
• Splintering in your partner's first bid suit

If 2♠ is a 3crd raise, diamonds might be the better denomination. That is an argument for playing 3♦ NF and 4♦ as natural slamgoing.
