North thought 5 denied defence. South thought North was wrong to bid 6, and thought 4 was optimistic. Who is right, or are both to blame?

North did plenty when he bid 4. The 5 bid did not request any further cooperation from North, and North should respect the decision of South in any further action. Not only that, but his Jxxx of hearts and his Qx of diamonds have some defensive value.

The interference got EW up to the 5 level. North has no clue as to the exact makeup of South's hand. He has no reason to bid anymore.

North is 100% to blame.

north bid his hand twice, big error. Defending at this colors over 5x is also a big error with a yaborough, it is ludicrous.

IMO given the vulnerability sotuh also bid his hand twice, but a bit closer.

I think North was bidding someone else's hand. South did nothing wrong.
